Consumer sentiment recovered slightly in January after plunging to a record low in December, helped by falling commodity prices, the Cabinet Office said Tuesday.

The index of confidence among households made up of two or more members came to 26.4, up 0.2 point from December for the first improvement in four months. In the previous month, it had sunk to 26.2, the lowest figure since comparable data became available in June 1982.
