At least 5,600 foreign workers have lost their jobs or are expected to lose them over about six months through March due to workforce cutbacks by companies, a labor ministry survey showed Friday.

The Health, Labor and Welfare Ministry tallied the figure by scrutinizing a related survey released in January showing about 125,000 nonregular Japanese and foreign workers are expected to be dismissed by March.
