The agriculture ministry is considering allowing rice farmers to choose whether to take part in production cuts, which would reverse its uniform rice production policy, ministry sources said Tuesday.
Under the system, only farmers who participate in slashing rice production in line with government policy would be entitled to subsidies, the sources said.
It isn't known yet whether agricultural cooperatives and rice growers who have complied with the government's crop reduction policy for years will oppose the policy change.
