Taiwan's president-elect, Ma Ying-jeou, said Sunday he has not ruled out visiting Japan and the United States before his inauguration in May.

"I am indeed considering using this opportunity to visit overseas," Ma said, a day after he won the presidential election.

Asked where he would go, Ma said that the timing and destinations are still under consideration, but he "would not rule out" visiting Tokyo and Washington.

"I plan to go to those countries most friendly (to Taiwan)," he told a press conference held exclusively for the Japanese press in Taipei.
