NEW YORK (Bloomberg) Bingham McCutchen, a 1,000-lawyer firm based in Boston, has acquired the 22-lawyer New Tokyo International Law Office.

Bingham, which has offices in New York and London, acquired New Tokyo to assist international clients who do business in Japan, the firm said Tuesday. The Tokyo-based firm specializes in insolvency, corporate and litigation matters.

"By building upon our key practices of insolvency, securities and financial services in Japan, we are positioning ourselves to be the go-to law firm for financial institutions investing in Japan and in major economic markets worldwide," Bingham Chairman Jay Zimmerman said in a prepared statement.
