NARITA, Chiba Pref. (Kyodo) Narita International Airport opened Japan's largest airport duty-free shopping mall Monday at its No. 2 terminal.

The mall, called Narita 5th Avenue, hosts 32 shops, including Gucci and Burberry. With floor space of about 4,800 sq. meters, it is larger than the Narita Nakamise mall opened last June in the No. 1 terminal.

Narita International Airport Corp., which operates the airport, aims to raise about 12 billion yen a year from the new mall and attract more customers to the airport.

The operator is focused on boosting its goods sales and other nonairline-related businesses, citing gloomy prospects for airline-related operations due to sharp cuts in landing fees.
