NEW YORK (Kyodo) Japan's leading automaker, Toyota Motor Corp., ranked 12th on Forbes magazine's list of the world's largest companies released Thursday. Six other Japanese firms made the top 100.

Toyota's ranking and the number of Japanese companies in the top 100 were unchanged from a year earlier.

U.S. financial giant Citigroup Inc. continues to head the list, followed by the Bank of America and HSBC Holdings of Britain.

Of the Japanese companies, automakers Honda Motor Co. came in 73rd and Nissan Motor Co. ranked 81st.

Japan's leading financial groups made the list, with Mitsubishi UFJ Financial Group Inc. in 40th, Mizuho Financial Group Inc. 59th and Sumitomo Mitsui Financial Group Inc. 65th.
