About 130 people got trapped on the monorail to Tokyo's Haneda airport Sunday after their train collided with the arm of a crane, halting service for about five hours, Tokyo Monorail Co. said.

The passengers were safely rescued after being transferred to another monorail on the elevated line.

A woman identified only by her age, 37, complained of being sick and was taken to hospital, firefighters said.

The accident was caused by a crane truck that was parked about eight meters under the tracks in Minato Ward, Tokyo. The crew was using the crane to install a traffic sign when the train ran into its arm at around 2:35 p.m., according to the Metropolitan Police Department.

The police are checking whether there were any procedural problems on the part of the construction crew, whose company was not specified.

All monorail services between Haneda airport and Hamamatsucho station were suspended after the accident, Tokyo Monorail said. Operations resumed at 7:41 p.m.

After hitting the crane arm, the train moved closer to Tennozu Isle station, one stop from Hamamatsucho station.

A train dispatched on another track then pulled alongside to rescue the passengers, who were led across a board used to bridge the gap between the two elevated tracks. The rescue ended at around 4:30 p.m., the police said.
