Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries Minister Toshikatsu Matsuoka said Thursday he plans to visit the European Union headquarters in Brussels as early as next week to exchange views on the suspended farm negotiations of the Doha Round of global trade talks under the World Trade Organization.

He is also scheduled to meet with WTO Director General Pascal Lamy.

"It is important to collect information so we can respond promptly whenever the negotiations resume," Matsuoka said at a news conference.

He also said the resumption of the negotiations would depend on what action each country takes.
