The 26-year-old son of a former Colombian ambassador to Japan has been arrested in Tokyo on suspicion of possessing cannabis, police said Thursday.
Juan Esteban Gutierrez was arrested Monday when officers raided his house as part of an investigation into an April murder allegedly committed by his brother, police said.
A 33-year-old woman who was with him in the house in Tokyo’s Minato Ward was also arrested on suspicion of drug possession, they said.
Police said they are investigating how the two obtained the drug.
Gutierrez’s 31-year-old brother, Ricardo Andrez, is being sought by police on suspicion of killing a 34-year-old American man in a public lavatory in Yoyogi Park in Tokyo on April 12 and is believed to be linked to the Colombia-based Cali drug cartel, police said.
