Crown Prince Naruhito will attend the funeral of Tonga's King Taufa'ahau Tupou IV next week, the government said Friday.

He will depart from Tokyo's Haneda airport aboard a government plane Monday and stay overnight in Auckland, before going to the Pacific nation for the funeral on Tuesday, according to the Imperial Household Agency. He will return home Wednesday.

Tupou IV, crowned in 1967, was one of the world's longest-reigning monarchs. He died Sunday after a long illness.

His son, Crown Prince Tupouto'a has taken the throne.
