A police officer fired two shots at a bank robber Thursday afternoon at a Bank of Yokohama branch in the city, wounding him in the neck and shoulder.

Police said they will formally arrest the robber, who is believed to be around 40 years old, after he recovers. No customers or bank workers were injured in the incident, police said. The robber entered the branch armed with a knife and showed a note that claimed he was carrying an explosive.

The police officer opened fire when the robber threatened a security guard with the knife, they said.
