Senior Vice Foreign Minister Yasuhisa Shiozaki, in Nepal on a two-day visit, said Friday said he hoped the country continues its democratization.

"We would like to encourage the democratic process in Nepal, of which the Nepalese people are the driving force," he said after arriving in the capital.

"I am here for a dialogue with government and other officials, and hope to be briefed on political developments and the peace process."

Nepal has been wracked by a Maoist rebellion and political unrest in recent years.

Shiozaki, on a two-day visit aimed at strengthening ties with the Himalayan kingdom, will meet Nepalese Prime Minister Girija Prasad Koirala.
