The Gifu Family Court sentenced a 15-year-old boy Friday to a juvenile reformatory for the murder of a 13-year-old girl in Nakatsugawa, Gifu Prefecture, in April.

The boy, whose name is being withheld because he is a minor, strangled Nao Shimizu in an abandoned building around 6 p.m. on April 19 after the two had an argument.

A police officer searching for the girl, who had been reported missing, found her body on April 21 inside the building, leading to the arrest of the youth later that day.

The boy and the girl were junior high schoolmates. The boy graduated from the school in March.

The boy's lawyer asked that he be given a psychiatric examination, but doctors in Gifu found no signs of mental illness after about two months of evaluations.
