Meetings between Japan’s and China’s foreign ministers have become so infrequent lately that any chance to talk is an opportunity too important to miss — even when it’s in the men’s lavatory.

Foreign Minister Taro Aso reported having a fruitful talk Wednesday with his Chinese counterpart, Li Zhaoxing, after they bumped into each other in the men’s room during a meeting of the foreign ministers of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations and China, Japan and South Korea in Kuala Lumpur.
