A Frenchman started the last leg of his trans-Eurasia road run Thursday as he set off from Fukuoka for the finish line in Tokyo.

Serge Girard, 52, an insurance company employee, began the 3,890-km Japan run from Fukuoka, planning to finish the Eurasian run in Tokyo on Sept. 13, his sponsor, Mizuno Corp., said.

He has already completed runs across North America, Australia, South America and Africa, and Eurasia is his fifth continental attempt.

After starting the Eurasian run in Paris on Dec. 17, he has run every day an of 70 km, trotting through Istanbul, Tehran and Shanghai, from where he flew to Fukuoka on Wednesday, the sporting goods maker said.

In the Eurasian run, he aims to break a world record in distance by running for 276 days straight.
