A 17-kg piece of the minute hand of a clock in front of the main entrance to JR Hakodate Station fell 11 meters to the ground Wednesday morning, startling travelers, Hokkaido Railway Co. said.

No one was injured in the incident.

According to JR Hokkaido's Hakodate office, the clock is located 11 meters above ground, the minute hand is 105 cm long and the section fell around 9:55 a.m.

"I heard a shattering sound as the hand landed heavily, causing me to turn around," said Takanori Inagaki, a jinrikisha driver who was at the station waiting for customers.
