Apple Computer Inc. Vice President of Marketing Yoshiaki Sakito, one of the company's top Japan executives, has stepped down, the company said Tuesday.

Sakito resigned Monday after he and the company reached an agreement, it said, but declined to give details.

He has been credited with leading a successful marketing push for Apple's iPod portable music player in Japan.

Phil Schiller, Apple's senior vice president overseeing worldwide marketing, will replace Sakito on an interim basis, and a successor has not yet been named, Apple said.
