LOS ANGELES (Kyodo) Nintendo Co.'s popular DS portable game system will be featured as a high-tech spy gadget in the upcoming British action film "Stormbreaker," the electronics company announced Tuesday.

In an agreement signed by Nintendo and the film's producers, Peter and Marc Samuelson, a "Hot Rod Red" DS will be the gadget of choice for the film's lead character, Alex Rider. The teen orphan-turned-spy uses the device as an eavesdropping tool, wiretap detector and smoke bomb.

"The agreement is a perfect marriage of two hot entertainment properties," said George Harrison, Nintendo of America Inc.'s senior vice president of marketing and corporate communications.

The film, which features Rider's adventures as a recruit in the famed MI6 British spy agency, is based on the best-selling series by British author Anthony Horowitz.

"Stormbreaker" stars Alex Pettyfer as Rider, along with Ewan McGregor, Alicia Silverstone and Mickey Rourke.
