The Munich police temporarily held a 34-year-old Japanese man for trying to scalp 69 tickets to World Cup soccer matches under way in Germany, the police said.

The man, along with a 40-year-old Canadian woman, tried to sell five tickets to plainclothes investigators in Munich at exorbitant prices on Tuesday, the police said in a statement.

The couple, both tourists, possessed a total of 69 tickets. They were released on 2,500 euro bail each late Tuesday night, according to the police.
