Police filed an additional report with prosecutors Tuesday on their investigation into disqualified architect Hidetsugu Aneha's fabrication of earthquake-resistance data for a condominium complex and a budget hotel, both of which were later found to be susceptible to damage in a strong quake.

Aneha, who has been indicted on a charge not directly linked with the data fabrications that were revealed last November, is suspected of violating the Building Standards Law in the latest case, police said.

They have also filed an additional investigative report on Susumu Ojima, 53, president of bankrupt condominium developer Huser Ltd.

He is suspected of swindling more than 10 condo buyers out of hundreds of millions of yen by selling units with the knowledge that fabricated earthquake-resistance data were used in the construction.

According to investigators, Aneha, 48, fabricated quake-resistance data for the Grand Stage Fujisawa condo complex in Fujisawa, Kanagawa Prefecture, and Sun Hotel Nara in the city of Nara, both of which were built by Kimura Construction Co., based in Yatsushiro, Kumamoto Prefecture. Kimura Construction has since gone out of business.

The condo high-rise's quake resistance was found to be only about 15 percent of the required level set by the government, while that of the hotel was 44 percent.

Investigators will continue questioning Aneha about similarly fabricated data for four other condos and hotels in Tokyo, police sources said.

Aneha was arrested April 26 and charged May 17 with abetting an architectural designer's violation of the registered architect law by allowing the designer to use his name as a state-licensed architect.

Ojima was arrested May 17 on suspicion of selling a unit in the Fujisawa condo, knowing it was built with fabricated earthquake-resistance data.

Kimura Construction President Moriyoshi Kimura was arrested in late April and charged in mid-May with violating construction laws.
