A 79-year-old woman died after being attacked by a dog on a street here Monday afternoon, police said.
Yasuko Nagai was bitten in the neck by the 1.5-meter-long male Tosa at around 2:10 p.m. and taken to a hospital where she was pronounced dead.
Local residents later captured the dog, the police said.
The Tosa is known as a fighting dog and their fights were once a popular sport in the Tosa region in present-day Kochi Prefecture.
