LONDON (Kyodo) The United States asked Japan on Friday to resume imports of U.S. beef as soon as possible despite conflicting opinions on its safety after a dangerous shipment of veal containing banned spinal cord was sent to Japan earlier this year.
The request was made by U.S. Agriculture Secretary Mike Johanns during talks with Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries Minister Shoichi Nakagawa, the minister told reporters afterward.
