LONDON (Kyodo) A Japanese family has been certified by Guinness World Records as having a record four generations sharing the same birthday, a feat shared with four other families worldwide.

The record was achieved following the birth in the Yokohama family of Mion Masuda last March 26. Mion shares the same birthday as her father, Hiroshi, a company executive born in 1963, as well as her grandfather, Minao, born in 1933, and great-grandfather Kanamori, who was born in 1899 and passed away in 1972.

According to Guinness World Records, the record is shared with a family in Finland and three families in the United States, including one in which four family members celebrate their birthdays on July 4, Independence Day.

Mion's mother, Yuko, 43, said her doctor told her she would deliver on March 25 but "strangely that labor did not come." She said she gave birth to Mion about 30 minutes after the date changed to March 26.

Hiroshi, Mion's father, said, "I did not feel it so rare to be the third generation (to share the same birthday), but after it has been passed on to a fourth generation, I feel there is some destiny."
