Bank of Japan Gov. Toshihiko Fukui voiced stronger confidence Thursday in the ongoing recovery, but said the central bank needs to confirm the economy's strength against various external risks.

Fukui's remarks followed the BOJ's monthly view, which says "Japan's economy continues to recover steadily."

The BOJ chief told a news conference he believes the economy "will continue a slow, sustainable recovery." The growth is well-balanced overall, from the corporate sectors to household sectors and from external to domestic demand, he added.
