NEW YORK (Kyodo) Japan's presence at the United Nations Secretariat remains low relative to its financial contribution, and it appears boosting its representation sharply over a short period will be no easy task.

Many Japanese staff at the secretariat, however, are enthusiastic about their jobs and have tips for young compatriots interested in careers at the world body.

The 191-member U.N. draws up and carries out a huge array of international activities. But prompted in part by a series of financial scandals and calls to shrink its bloated bureaucracy, the world body is poised to embark on management reforms.
