KAGOSHIMA (Kyodo) The government is experimenting with a superhigh-frequency radio system in Kagoshima Prefecture to provide broadband Internet communications to a group of remote islands, making information, as well as movies and music, available to the residents.

The experiment by the Internal Affairs and Communications Ministry's Kyushu bureau was launched on the Koshiki Islands in November.

The islands are 27 km from Kyushu and part of the city of Satsuma-Sendai. The plan is to bring it broadband through radio at a frequency of 18 gigahertz.
