Salaried workers' standard monthly remuneration averaged 253,891 yen in July, up 0.2 percent from a year earlier for the fourth straight monthly rise, the government said Wednesday.

The overall average monthly wage, comprising both regular and overtime pay, increased to 398,019, yen a rise of 1.7 percent for the fourth straight rise on the year, the Health, Labor and Welfare Ministry said in a preliminary report.

"Robust corporate earnings are being reflected in wages," an official said.

The number of full-time and part-time workers increased 0.5 percent to 43.27 million, up for the 19th month in a row.

On the other hand, the average number of monthly working hours fell 1.4 percent to 152.9, showing the first drop in three months.

The figures cover companies with five or more employees.
