A Ground Self-Defense Force soldier was arrested in Kisarazu, Chiba Prefecture, early Sunday on suspicion of murdering his wife after a heated argument over his alleged extramarital affair, police said.
The police identified the suspect as Masahiro Kotoda, 49.
Kotoda told the police he killed his 52-year-old wife Kazuko in a fit of rage by strangling her at their house in Kisarazu around 1:40 a.m.
