NAGOYA (Kyodo) Chubu airport in Aichi Prefecture concluded a “sister-airport” arrangement Monday with Munich airport in Germany, officials said.

Yukihisa Hirano, president of Central Japan International Airport Co., the operator of the airport, signed a document on the alliance with Michael Kerkloh, head of Flughafen Munchen GmbH, which operates Munich airport.

Under the alliance, the two airports will exchange operational knowhow, the officials said.

Hirano said the number of passengers who used Munich airport in its first year was 12 million, the same level of passengers Chubu is seeking. Chubu airport will open Thursday.
