Mitsubishi Motors Corp. is planning to supply its mainstay eK-Wagon minivehicle to Nissan Motor Co. next fiscal year, expanding ties between the two automakers, according to industry sources.

It is rare for an automaker to supply its mainstay product to another vehicle manufacturer. MMC, which supplies small commercial vehicles to Nissan, will also continue to sell the eK-Wagon under its own brand, they said.

MMC, reeling from a string of scandals involving vehicle defect coverups, has reportedly been in talks with Nissan to integrate their minivehicle operations under a joint venture to be set up in the spring.
