Toy maker Tomy Co. will recall about 7,400 stuffed Pokemon toys for free inspection as the stuffing may contain tips of sewing needles, the Consumer Product Safety Commission said Friday.

Tomy's decision followed an announcement earlier in the week to recall about 41 kinds of Pokemon toys in Japan, totaling some 626,000 in number, after a needle was found in the stuffing of one toy.

The U.S. recall involves 13 Pokemon characters in the form of dolls, beanbags and key chains, all having a sewn-in label reading "TOMY," the commission said.

Retailer Pokemon Center New York, which sold the toys at its shop and through its Web site from January to August for $2 to $11, said it has received no reports of injuries.
