Hokkaido sustained 11 billion yen in damage after last week's major earthquake, according to data compiled by the Hokkaido government Thursday.

It said 9.3 billion yen of the figure pertained to damage to homes and other buildings, while the forestry industry suffered 200 million yen in damage.

Of the people injured, 755 were hurt in Hokkaido and one in neighboring Aomori Prefecture.

The 4:50 a.m. quake with a magnitude of 8.0 on the Richter scale was followed by a series of aftershocks, including one that measured magnitude 7.1.
