Nissan Motor Co. is considering financial assistance amounting to around 20 billion yen for struggling truck manufacturer Nissan Diesel Motor Co., a core unit of its group, sources familiar with the matter said Saturday.

Nissan is considering the assistance as it is the biggest shareholder in Nissan Diesel, which has already begun negotiations with Mizuho Corporate Bank and other major lenders on a bailout plan totaling 100 billion yen, they said.

Nissan apparently wants to push restructuring efforts at Nissan Diesel by offering a substantial amount of help, the sources said, adding the truck maker is likely to disclose a comprehensive rehabilitation program by the end of this month.
