NEW YORK – Mitsubishi Motors North America Inc. said Sunday it has selected Finbarr O’Neill, a top official of Hyundai Motor America, as chief executive officer and cochairman, replacing Pierre Gagnon.
O’Neill, 51, has served as CEO of Hyundai Motor America since 1998. He will assume the new post Tuesday, Mitsubishi Motors North America said.
O’Neill will serve as cochairman of the U.S. unit of Japan’s Mitsubishi Motors Corp. together with Steven Torok, vice president of the Japanese automaker who is in charge of international sales and marketing, the company said.
Mitsubishi Motors North America said Gagnon, who joined Mitsubishi in 1997, was resigning to pursue other opportunities. Gagnon became president and CEO in July 2002.
