Police on Tuesday arrested a 35-year-old truck driver in Fukuroi, Shizuoka Prefecture, for allegedly causing a pileup on the Tomei Expressway on June 23 that left four people dead and 13 injured.
Saichi Natsume was hospitalized with burns after his truck slammed into the rear of a car that had slowed down due to a traffic jam. He was arrested immediately after being released from a hospital.
Investigators said they believe Natsume failed to decelerate or apply his brakes. He was arrested on suspicion of professional negligence resulting in death and injury.
