NAGOYA – Three bodies were found in one of three homes gutted by an early Wednesday morning fire in Kasugai, Aichi Prefecture, firefighters and police said.
The three were identified as Chizuko Sagawa, 58, owner of one of the homes, and her grandchildren, Mitsuyuki Sagawa, 10, and Naomi Sagawa, 8, who were living with her.
The fire broke out at around 2:50 a.m. and was extinguished about 3 1/2 hours later, firefighters said.
According to neighbors, Chizuko Sagawa had poor vision. Her grandchildren did most of the chores around the house and took care of her, they said.
The children’s parents had lived with them for a time, but family circumstances led them to leave the children with the grandmother, they said.
