OSAKA – An arrest warrant was obtained Friday for a 57-year-old former gangster who fatally shot a 39-year-old nurse at a hospital in the city of Sakai, Osaka Prefecture.
Police officials said they plan to arrest Kazuya Umano, the former head of a gangster group, on suspicion of murder, attempted murder and firearms law violations once he recovers from his self-inflicted stab wounds.
On Thursday afternoon, Umano entered Senboku Jinnai Hospital and demanded to see the deputy director. He shot Ayumi Tanaka and stabbed a male doctor before turning the knife on himself.
He was quoted as telling investigators that he had a grudge against the facility because it “did not treat him as a proper patient” when he was hospitalized there.
Umano said he killed the nurse because he did not like the way she talked to him.
