A 14-year-old junior high school boy in Tochigi Prefecture has been questioned in connection with writing a death threat on a Web site, police said Tuesday.

Police suspect the teen of writing that he was planning to murder three elementary school students. When questioned, he reportedly said he did it as a prank.

Should further investigations support the allegations, his case will be sent to prosecutors, police added.

The boy used a personal computer at his home Feb. 16 to write to the Web site "2 Channel" that he would "kill three students in elementary schools in the town of Ujiie a week from now, on (Feb.) 23," according to an investigation.

Of the three names he listed as the victims, one was that of an actual child, according to police.

Prefectural police were alerted to the threat by someone who had accessed the Web site.
