NIIGATA – A Filipino woman was arrested Friday on suspicion of killing a 39-year-old man in Joetsu, Niigata Prefecture, and shoving his body off a cliff.
Emelinda Montilla Sato, a 33-year-old housewife who lives in Joetsu, is suspected of fatally stabbing Yoshihiro Naito with a knife inside her car Feb. 14.
Naito’s body was found Monday at the base of a cliff in the Gochikokubu district. He had been stabbed in the upper torso.
Investigators said Naito, a welder, had made Sato’s acquaintance while she worked as a hostess at a local restaurant.
They said the murder took place at around 9:20 p.m. Feb. 14 at a beach in the Mushuiwato district.
Investigators reportedly found the weapon in Sato’s home and impounded the car she used.
Although Sato has reportedly told police she acted alone, they are trying to determine if there were any accomplices.
