Food wholesaler Nakashimato Co. said Tuesday it is recalling cans of pork and beans which fail to state that they contain bacon with egg white, which could cause allergic reactions.

Subject to the recall are some 250,000 cans whose expiration falls between March 10 and Dec. 21, 2005, said Nakashimato, the biggest shareholder in Q.P. Corp., the nation's biggest mayonnaise maker.

Under the Food Sanitation Law, foods with substances that could cause allergic reactions have been required to be labeled since last spring.

Nakashimato said the product was sold by Q.P. and made on its behalf by a canned product maker with ham supplied by a Tokyo meat packer, but the meat packer failed to report a change in the meat product from one free of egg white to one containing it.
