A 30-year-old man was arrested Sunday on suspicion of burning down the home of his former girlfriend Saturday in Gunma Prefecture, police said.

Police identified the suspect as Malik Abid Awan, a Pakistani factory worker in Ota, northwest of Tokyo.

According to police investigations, Awan allegedly entered the home of his former girlfriend, 47, in the town of Yabuzukahon, sprinkled kerosene around and set her house on fire at around 9:30 p.m.

No one was hurt in the blaze, which destroyed the house, the police said.

Awan works for the same company as the woman’s husband.
