KAGOSHIMA – The number of red sea turtles that have laid eggs this season on Yakushima Island, Kagoshima Prefecture, has hit a record 1,800, a local nonprofit group official said Monday.
Kazuyoshi Omuta of Yakushima Umigame Kan (Yakushima Sea Turtles Hall) said the number of turtles laying eggs on the beach in the Nagata district has been on the rise for three years.
