NARITA, Chiba Pref. – Police and customs authorities at New Tokyo International Airport here have arrested a crew member of the aircraft carrier USS Kitty Hawk on suspicion of smuggling about 1 kg of marijuana into Japan, sources told Kyodo News on Friday.
The 29-year-old sailor, whose name was withheld by the officials, is suspected of smuggling the dried hemp leaves, with a street value of about 4 million yen, from Thailand in early August by hiding them in his bag, they said.
