Nippon Meat Packers Inc. President Hiroji Okoso is to waive part of his pay and benefits package to take responsibility for mismanaging the firm's meat business operations, sources said Saturday.

Okoso is considering giving up all claims on his executive allowances and benefits, the sources said.

Okoso, chief of Japan's largest ham and sausage maker, widely known as Nippon Ham, said earlier this week he has no intention of stepping down. Under his watch, a Nippon Meat division, Nippon Food Inc., abused a state beef-buyback program set up to aid meat producers during the mad cow disease scare.
