Prosecutors sought the death penalty Thursday for a moneylender in Saitama Prefecture accused of murdering two people and attempting to murder a third for life insurance money.

During their closing argument at the Saitama District Court, the prosecutors demanded capital punishment for Shigeru Yagi, 52, of Honjo, Saitama Prefecture, who has pleaded not guilty.

Three women accused of being Yagi's accomplices in the murder-for-insurance scheme pleaded guilty to the charges and have been convicted and sentenced.
