A cargo vessel ran aground on a breakwater at the entrance of Kochi port early Sunday, local Japan Coast Guard officials said.

The sea was calm and visibility good when the accident occurred, according to the coast guard.

The 199-ton No. 5 Ebisu Maru ran aground at around 3:30 a.m. and was towed off the site by a tugboat about six hours later, the officials said. None of the three-member crew were injured, and there was no sign of oil spilling from the ship, they added.

The vessel was transporting a 110-ton crane from Tadotsu port in Kagawa Prefecture to Kochi port.
