Police arrested a 37-year-old man Saturday for entering the grounds of the U.S. Yokota base in western Tokyo after he was detained by a military policeman on patrol at the base and handed over to Japanese police officers.

Toshimi Toge, who was spotted by a military policeman at the base at around 3:20 a.m. Saturday, said, "I entered the base wanting to see a fighter aircraft," according to the police.

Toge entered the base by climbing over a perimeter fence about 2.5 meters high at the south of the base. He was spotted about 250 meters east of a gate on the west side of the base, they said.
