The National Police Agency has committed to continuing its assistance to Indonesia's police-reform effort by entering into a five-year pilot project expected to start next month.

Indonesian Police Chief Gen. Da'i Bachtiar and NPA chief Setsuo Tanaka witnessed the signing Monday of a record of discussion conducted by representatives of the Indonesian National Police and the Japan International Cooperation Agency.

"The Indonesian police cannot work alone, but need support from the international community," Da'i said in an address after the ceremony.

Tanaka, while expressing the NPA's "commitment to give full support to the reform of the Indonesian police," also hoped the project "can make our cooperation closer."
