FUKUI – The Fukui District Court on Thursday sentenced a couple to suspended 18-month prison terms for causing the death of their infant daughter by leaving her in their car while they played pachinko.
Kengo Miyashita, a 26-year-old office worker from Fukui Prefecture, and his wife, Kayoko, 21, left their 11-month-old daughter, Risa, in the car April 22 for 2 1/2 hours at a pachinko parlor parking lot in Sabae, Fukui Prefecture. The girl died of heat exhaustion.
